About Our Tournaments

“I-love-TKD” – A group of taekwondo enthusiasts supported by Taekwondo New Zealand.

The aim is to promote the development of taekwondo in New Zealand by hosting grass roots “non- competitive” tournaments throughout the country.

“I-love-TKD” is working alongside Clubs throughout New Zealand to assist in hosting a Taekwondo event in their community.

“I-love-TKD” extends an invitation to our Para Community athletes to take part in our competition.

LET’S JUST DO IT

This tournament is for new-comers and beginners who have competed less than 3 tournaments. Those who are tournament “specialists” (having been to 4 tournaments as a competitor) are asked to act as Referees, Judges and Coaches. For the specialists, it is time for you to give back to your Club by supporting your club-mates.

Poomsae and Kyorugi/Sparring will be competed for as a single match.

Everyone one gets a medal. Due to the nature of the competition, every match (Poomsae and Sparring) is a FINAL, so winning player gets GOLD, 2nd Place gets SILVER.

LIMIT ON THE NUMBER OF COMPETITORS

The tournament will be limited to 160 competitors.

POOMSAE COMPETITION RULES

Poomsae will be competed for by having both players taking the mat at the same time and performing their Poomsae at the same time. Judges will select which Poomsae they liked the most, deciding the winner in this manner.

Contestants shall wait until the coordinator’s declaration of “Pyo-chul”. Co-ordinator will declare winner of the round, and if the second Poomsae, the winner of the Match. For example “Chung seung” (Blue victory).
In the case of a tie (3-3 judges vote across the two Poomsae), the Co-ordinator will choose, or with the assistance of the competitors choose, a third and final pattern.
